In Psalm 1:1 it is stated very clearly which things the righteous do not do. They do not walk in the counsel of the wicked, they do not stand in the way of sinners, and they do not sit in the seat of scoffers. David makes it clear that he did not consort with men of falsehood
—the idolators. To David, true religion meant separation from wicked men and their activities.
