When did Jesus select these four disciples?

Matthieu 4:18–22 (NEG79)

18 Comme il marchait le long de la mer de Galilée, il vit deux frères, Simon, appelé Pierre, et André, son frère, qui jetaient un filet dans la mer; car ils étaient pêcheurs.

After Jesus’ baptism by John, the following takes place:

  • Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist.

  • Jesus is tempted in the wilderness.

  • John witnesses about himself and Jesus (John 1:19–36).

  • The disciples of John follow Jesus: Andrew and Simon Peter. Philip and Nathanael also follow Jesus (John 1:37–51).

  • The miracle of the wine at Cana happens and there is a short visit to Capernaum (John 2:1–12).

  • Jesus performs the signs at the temple at the Passover in Jerusalem (John 2:13–25).

  • The discussion between Nicodemus and Jesus takes place (John 3:1–21).

  • The two places of baptism are mentioned: John at Aenon and Jesus (through his disciples) in Judea (John 3:22–36).

  • John the Baptist is arrested (John 4:1–3; Luke 3:18–20; Matthew 4:12; Mark 1:14).
