1 Peter 1:13–21 consists of the following subsections:
1 Peter 1:13 summarizes the consequence of the instruction of 1 Peter 1:3–12 and so forms the foundation upon which the following instruction is built.
1 Peter 1:14–16 identifies an essential characteristic of the heavenly Father (holiness) that his children on earth must reflect.
1 Peter 1:17 adds incentive to the required holiness by further identifying the Father as an impartial judge.
1 Peter 1:18–21 reminds the reader of the high price their salvation cost. That high price gives solid grounding to their faith and hope.
