The meat of the sacrificial animal was not to be eaten on the third day. If any portion of this offering remained until the third day, it had to be burned. In Leviticus, the phrase “burn with fire” (bāēš yiśśārēp) denotes the destruction of that which is abhorrent to the Lord (see Leviticus 4:12, Leviticus 4:21; Leviticus 8:17; Leviticus 9:11).
