What is significant about the thanksgiving offering?

The thanksgiving offering is unique because the meat of the animal must be consumed by the worshipper (and presumably his family) on the day of sacrifice. This is the same statute for the three major Israelite festival days: Passover, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles (Exodus 23:14–18; Exodus 34:25; Deuteronomy 16:4).
