As confident as David was in our righteous God to give him relief, others did not share his confidence in the Lord. He addresses these people as O men
in Psalm 4:2. These men are most likely fellow Israelites, members of God’s family, who have also experienced the same distress as David. The problem is that they have not handled it very well. The distress has left them reeling, confused, and lost. They are straying from the Lord. Instead of shrugging his shoulders, he reaches out to them in Psalm 4:2–5 with two probing questions (Psalm 4:2) and three pleas (Psalm 4:3–5). That is something we all ought to do! Do you know someone who is drowning or lost? Reach out to them, direct them to the Lord.
