The words he must cry out with divine authority are contained in Revelation 18:2–3. These words convey God’s perspective on the conclusion of Revelation 17. This is striking, and it is essential that the church understand and embrace this perspective. This needs to be said because the Christian eye sees so much darkness in this world, as if the alliance of Revelation 17:1–18 remains the dominant motif in our present world. The cry of the angel tells us that that motif is not the overriding theme of today’s world; instead, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!” The overriding motif in the new dispensation is light, victory, the lordship of Christ the King!
2 And he called out with a mighty voice, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
