Revelation of God the Son

2 Peter 1:16–21 (ESV)

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

What does 2 Peter 1:16-21 reveal about what God does in my place and on my behalf (the work of the Son)? The Son came to earth in a hidden way, his glory not revealed for all to see but only briefly for those apostles taken with him up the mountain. He came in this hidden way because his first coming was not for judgment but salvation. He came to bear the sins of God’s people and live the perfect life on their behalf. He came to fulfill prophecy and prepare his people for his glorious return. As a result of what he has done in his first coming, I can look forward to the second coming of Christ without fear. Because I have been made righteous through faith in him, his second coming will be a day of my salvation and not judgment. I will be welcomed into the eternal kingdom of my Lord and Saviour (2 Peter 1:11).
