Why are these judgments “true and just”?

Revelation 16:7 (ESV)

7 And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!”

The blood resulting from the second and third bowls represented death. God had said in Genesis 2:17 already that disobedience against the sovereign Creator (the Almighty) would result in death (see also Romans 6:23). The “altar” affirms that God is righteous both in pronouncing this penalty ahead of time and implementing this penalty in the course of time. Truly, “true and just are your judgments.”
