Daniel 3:6 (ESV)

6 And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace.”

The music starts to play at a sign from Nebuchadnezzar and everyone is then expected to kneel. Those who do not will be immediately thrown into the fiery furnace. Refusal, as determined by Nebuchadnezzar, is punishable by death. We see again and again in history how certain leaders want to enforce deification.  It is seen, for example, in the Roman Empire, when certain emperors desire to be worshipped as a god, and their citizens make an offering to these emperors at least once a year. A few grains of incense once a year are enough to fulfil this obligation. Those who do not want to do this risked the death penalty. This is why many Christians are persecuted. It means death for several of them, because they insist on worshipping only the one living God. They want to give the sacrifice of their lives for Christ alone.
