Linen is a fabric made from flax. Its production involves much labour, particularly in extracting the fibres from the flax and twisting those fibres into strands that can in turn be woven into cloth. God instructed Moses to use this fabric in the construction of the tabernacle (Exodus 26:1,Exodus 26:31, Exodus 26:36; Exodus 27:9, Exodus 27:16) and for the clothing the priests were to wear (Exodus 28:6, Exodus 28:15, Exodus 28:39, Exodus 28:42). Those holy garments, made from such rich material, would be “for glory and for beauty” (Exodus 28:2, Exodus 28:40), as is fitting for those who enter the presence of the Lord God in the tabernacle. It is fitting that these servants of almighty God, sent as they are on a mission from him, be dressed in linen.
6 and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests.
