What was so great and amazing about these angels?

Revelation 15:1 (ESV)

1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.

John had already seen numerous angels in heaven (e.g., Revelation 5:11). But these seven angels were unique inasmuch as they “were holding” (as the Greek has it) “seven plagues.” John finds that great and amazing.
