What are we expecting from the narrator at this point?
Judges 8:1 (ESV)
1Then the men of Ephraim said to him, “What is this that you have done to us, not to call us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they accused him fiercely.
We are ready for the narrator to conclude Gideon’s story with, Then the land had peace for X amount of years. But that notice is delayed for another whole chapter. What happens instead is a surprising return to conflict.
