The new believers might be shaken in their faith by the thought that Paul had come to their city to take their money from them, or to live at their expense—in other words, that he had been motivated by greed (2 Thessalonians 2:5). This could not have been the case, Paul says, because they were delighted to share with the Thessalonians not only the gospel of God but their lives as well.
8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.
