Overcoming the snare of sin in this world can be something that believers might not dream of. Sin is present with us all the time. And we are only talking of that sin that we are aware of! Because of the continued existence of evil in us, we may become disheartened at the desire to ever overcome sin. To us, it may be a hopeless attempt. But the Word of God promises that we overcome the world (sinful practices and ways of doing things in this world) through faith in Jesus Christ. The text does not go into detail of how our faith makes us overcome. But it must be said that the suffering and death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ brought us victory over sin. Just as he became victorious, we also, by faith in him, become victorious. Even though we may not see it now, even though we may struggle with sin now, God helps us overcome daily, and the ultimate victory will surely come and be shown plainly at the second coming of Christ.
