1. Mark 9:36 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What action does Jesus actually perform when taking the child in his arms?

Mark 9:36 (ESV)

36 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them,

He embraces it; the verb (ἐναγκαλίζομαι) can also mean “to take in his arms,” but here it probably means “to embrace” (because of the fact that Jesus was sitting down and placing the child “in the midst of them”).1
