In agreement with the general principle given at the beginning of this chapter (1 Corinthians 7:1), Paul emphasizes that it is even better if a widow does not remarry. Again, this is a general guideline, and there are exceptions. In 1 Timothy 5:14, for example, we find Paul encouraging young widows to remarry.
