Commentary on 1 Corinthians 3:9 (Summary)

1 Corinthians 3:9 (ESV)

9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

In Paul’s image of a field, God is both the giver of growth and the owner of the field. He is the one who appoints and rewards labourers at different times and for different tasks. But the field—the church—remains his alone.

With this Paul introduces his second image: that of a building.
