1 Corinthians 1:29 (ESV)

29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

God has chosen to give salvation to people who had nothing (no wisdom, power, or nobility) to boast about. In this way, he clearly showed that salvation comes from him alone, and not from any human ability or achievement.
