By faith. Although he was instructed in all the wisdom of Egypt (Acts 7:22), he did not forget his origin. Hebrews 11:23 talks about the faith and the courage of his parents. They saw that he was beautiful (Exodus 2:2; Acts 7:20). That means that he was special, destined to serve God. God called him. He obeyed although it was difficult to chose mistreatment with the slaves of Israel above the enjoyment of Egypt’s luxury. It was a difficult choice, but he resisted, or “refused,” to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter because he wanted to be a son of Israel’s God.
