John 1:1–5 (ESV)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Since the Word, Jesus Christ, is fully God, we must treat him with reverence and respect. It is sinful and blasphemous to draw pictures of him or to speak of him without reverence (second commandment). He is the heir of all things, the creator of all things, and the ruler of all things.

The Word is not someone we can frame on our wall or represent on a T-shirt. It is not our place to pretend as if Jesus is the friendly neighbourhood guru that will solve all our problems. Jesus is not a thing to be experienced. He is a person who lived in history, the one who died and rose from the grave. He is the eternal One, a member of the Godhead, the self-sufficient, self-sustaining and all-powerful creator of heaven and earth. He must be worshipped; he must be treated with great reverence and respect.
