Since the question about fasting addresses the practice of Jesus’ disciples, why does Jesus talk about himself in his answer?
Jesus’ answer is a pronouncement about himself. You can only understand everything through Jesus. He is the Bridegroom, the central figure of a feast!1
19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
