What is the meaning of sea to sea, and north to east?

Amos 8:12 (ESV)

12 They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.

Sea to sea and north to east suggest the absence of any geographical limits and embrace the whole earth (see Psalm 72:8 and Zechariah 9:10).
