What lies behind Joseph’s act of naming the child “Jesus”?

Matthew 1:25 (ESV)

25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

In naming the child “Jesus,” Joseph made a statement of faith. That is, he repeated after God the very word of salvation: “Jesus. This child is Jesus. He will be our Saviour, our Redeemer.” God used Joseph to put Christ in the centre.
