What is implied by Abram naming the child?

Genesis 16:15 (ESV)

15 And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.

Abram must have had a full account of the encounter Hagar had with the angel of the Lord. Abram believed Hagar. And he is taking his responsibility as the father of many nations.
