What does Jesus' promise to this church reveal?

Revelation 3:16 (ESV)

16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

Jesus promises to spit them out. Spitting water out of your mouth is the natural reaction to something that tastes or feels unnatural or unhealthy to your tongue. That this is how Jesus will respond to Laodicea forms a stark condemnation of Laodicea’s health.
