Why would Ehud fashion a two-edged sword?

Judges 3:16 (ESV)

16 And Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges, a cubit in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his clothes.

In his anticipation of an opportunity to assassinate Eglon, he made a sword this way to facilitate a straight stab rather than a hacking stroke to slice cleanly into the king’s flesh.1
