How long was the sword?

Judges 3:16 (ESV)

16 And Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges, a cubit in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his clothes.

The term in the original (גֹּמֶד) denotes a unit of measurement, maybe a cubit (approximately 18 inches (45 cm), the distance between the elbow and the tip of the middle finger). Some have suggested it is more likely the equivalent to the short cubit (approximately 13 inches (33 cm), the distance between the elbow and the knuckles of the clenched fist).1
