What does "Ehud" mean?
Ehud’s name is itself revealing. It means something like Where is the splendour?
In this way it is similar Ichabod (Where is the glory?
). The name most likely reflects the national despair of the times, the doubt about the Lord's presence with his people.1
15 Then the people of Israel cried out to the LORD, and the LORD raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.
