What was the attraction of these idols?

Judges 3:7 (ESV)

7 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. They forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.

These idols were the spiritual forces behind the changing seasons, the autumn and spring rains. And the Canaanites figured that if they worshipped properly, the rains would come at the right time, guaranteeing a good harvest and prosperity.
