This was the most important city on the coastal plain. This verse essentially repeats Joshua 16:10. The Canaanites were not removed from Gezer until the reign of Solomon (1 Kings 9:15–17), in spite of a successful campaign by Joshua against this city (Joshua 10:33; Joshua 12:12).
29 And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.
