1. Judges 1:22 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the significance of the “house” of Joseph being mentioned?

Judges 1:22 (ESV)

22 The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and the LORD was with them.

In this case it seems the expression house of Joseph is a metaphorical way of alluding to the solidarity of the northern tribes with one another. That the same expression occurs again in a summary way in verse Judges 1:35 indicates that it includes (as well as Ephraim and Manasseh) Zebulun, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan.1
