Capernaum, meaning village of Nahum
, was at that time a flourishing city. In some sense it may be regarded as the most privileged city in the world, because the Lord Jesus lived there (Matthew 4:13). It was also here that he gave most of his teaching and performed many of his miracles.1
23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
