Commentary on Luke 18:25 (Summary)

Luke 18:25 (ESV)

25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

To illustrate the risk of setting one’s heart entirely on one’s assets, Jesus uses a powerful example. Would a camel, the largest animal known in Palestine at the time, be able to get through the narrow eye of a needle? Everyone knows that is absolutely impossible. Similarly, it is impossible for a rich person, tied to his possessions, to enter the kingdom of God. Truly, they will never succeed. With this compelling example, Jesus emphatically warns us: beware of wealth! You may lose your life forever in being preoccupied with it.
