Jesus takes the twelve aside. They, in particular, need to understand why their Master is determined to go to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51). Very special things are going to happen there with the Son of Man, about whom the prophets had already spoken earlier. This designation Son of Man
primarily emphasizes that he is a son of Adam. There is also something mysterious about this title (see Daniel 7:13ff.). It indicates that Jesus is more than just a human being!
31 And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
