What are we to understand from the line, “for the people had a mind to work”?
Nehemiah 4:6 (ESV)
6So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.
These words would imply that the enemy’s taunting had no appreciable effect on the people. They had bought into Nehemiah’s vision (Nehemiah 2:18) and stuck with it (despite exceptions, as Nehemiah 3:5).
6 So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.
