Matthew 10:29 alludes to how the apostles can be imprisoned (Matthew 10:17–18) and even killed (Matthew 10:28), yet not one sparrow is caught and killed by fowlers apart from our Father. Thus, it is even more true that people cannot arrest or kill an apostle apart from it being allowed by God. Jesus says that not even one of these small birds fall to the ground—that is, is caught in a trap set for them (see Amos 3:5)—apart from your Father
(Matthew 10:29b), so the disciples may not think that the Father has left them. If he cares for the smallest, cheapest of creatures, how much more will he care for his children.

The disciples may never be under the impression that the Father had left them. After all, if he is willing to take care even for the smallest, cheapest of creatures, how much greater care would he not take when it comes to his most precious possessions, the crown of his creation.2
