In short
Joseph’s faith is seen when he obeys the command to take a more difficult path to flee from Judea, and in his patient waiting for Herod’s death and more instructions from the angel (Matthew 2:19).
In Matthew 2:14 we see Joseph’s faith demonstrated in his obedience when he, as husband of Jesus’ mother, is instructed to follow an unexpectedly difficult road. Obedience on the part of Joseph here has to be accompanied by perseverance, for although the angel mentions the prospect of a future return, this was to be delayed for as long as Herod lived. Joseph therefore had to wait until this ruler’s death and moreover, the angel would not return with any messages until that time (Matthew 2:19).1
