Commentary on 1 Kings 15:23–24 (Summary)

1 Kings 15:23–24 (ESV)

23 Now the rest of all the acts of Asa, all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? But in his old age he was diseased in his feet.

1 Kings 15:23–24 is framed in the same formal style that we have seen before. There is the writer pointing to another source of information concerning King Asa, an acknowledgement of his death, and the fact of his burial in the city of David.

An interesting detail that the writer gives breaks the mold of the formal style of concluding this king’s narrative. The writer says that in Asa’s old age, he was diseased in his feet. Possibly, the writer intended for the reader to infer that this disease had something to do with his death.
