Oracles (also translated as visions
) are prophetic words, usually doom-laden pronouncements against foreign nations (see also Isaiah 13:1; Nahum 1:1). In this context, the prophets had pronounced that the prosperity of Jerusalem is secure, and that divine doom would fall upon her oppressors (see Jeremiah 28:2–4). In reality, the true oracles from God, as faithfully conveyed by his prophets, warned about the terrible impending judgement over Jerusalem.1
14 Your prophets have seen for you false and deceptive visions; they have not exposed your iniquity to restore your fortunes, but have seen for you oracles that are false and misleading.
