Jerusalem’s acknowledgment that God has brought the day
he announced, refers to the day of his fierce anger
(Lamentations 1:12). After Judah had repeatedly ignored the prophet’s warnings, God intervened in judgment. Jerusalem now expresses her bewilderment that God’s day of judgment has been fulfilled without judging her enemies as well. Jerusalem is acknowledging God’s righteous judgment over her, but could not understand that others should be exempt and permitted to continue tormenting her.1
21 “They heard my groaning, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. You have brought the day you announced; now let them be as I am.
