Once again the prophet calls for lamentation (see Joel 1:5). The people are urged to lament like a virgin wearing sackcloth

The text mentions a lamenting like a virgin for the bridegroom of her youth.
This addition reminds the people of their covenant with the Lord, and emphasizes even more the tenderness of the relationship between God and his people.
The verse is saying: lament as one who is very sad. After all, the need is great.1
7 It has laid waste my vine and splintered my fig tree; it has stripped off their bark and thrown it down; their branches are made white.
