Should "the Son of God" be omitted from the text?

Mark 1:1 (ESV)

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The omission of the phrase “Son of God” from a number of Bible translations goes back to a single manuscript. In almost all manuscripts, however, we find these words, and they are included again in newer editions of the text.1
