This final term underlines that the futility in their work is on account of the Lord’s curse for their disobedience. Since their labours on their own houses to the neglect of God’s house caused the curse, that curse fell on their labours, their fields.1
11 And I have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and on all their labors.”
