1. Haggai 1:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is significant about the Lord’s use of the term “be glorified”?

Haggai 1:8 (ESV)

8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the LORD.

The Lord declares he would be honoured through the rebuilding of the temple. Furthermore, the word recalls the glory of the Lord that took up residence in the tabernacle (Exodus 40:34–38) and later the temple (1 Kings 8:9–11). That glory would be once again connected with the temple in the time ahead (Haggai 2:7, Haggai 2:9).
