There is once again a clear reference to Jeremiah’s calling in Jeremiah 1:10–12. The time to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy and bring harm
is coming to an end. Jeremiah’s message of judgment will be fulfilled through the Babylonian exile. But the Lord will then watch over them to build and to plant.
The time of restoration will follow judgment and just as the Lord had watched over his word of judgment so he will now watch over his promise of restoration. The Lord will always ensure that his word is fulfilled, whether in judgment or in restoration.
28 And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring harm, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, declares the LORD.
