Eliashib was a member of a sizable family (Ezra 2:36). As descendants of Aaron, the men of the family were all priests. According to the law, they played a significant role in the rituals and instruction provided in the temple. That temple was rebuilt in its original location on Mount Zion, located at the northern extremity of the city precinct that Nehemiah intended to wall.
1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel.
