You see what the Lord is saying, then, to Judah in Haggai 2:6–9? He is saying that they are working on this temple as the place where they gathered to worship me with sacrifice and prayer; and that this temple that is so unimpressive and really makes them discouraged to think that it is worthy a place to worship me, but this temple is going to be but the beginning of my coming unshakable Kingdom.” The time is going to come when I am going to shake the whole universe, and I am going to give my people an unshakable Kingdom. That is my purpose that I want you to see that I am carrying out. He is saying to this despised group of returned exiles, that what he wants you to see also is that he is going to begin that process with this temple you are now constructing. Insignificant as it may seem, it is only the beginning of his coming unshakable Kingdom. Does that not put significance into sometimes what we think is the minor key work and the insignificant work that we do as subjects of God's Kingdom? It does not have to be rebuilding a temple, anything you do. What use does it have in God's final purpose? Well, the things that we do with his blessing, will be an integral part of his Kingdom plan - I am the One responsible for dabbing it with glory - and we can be encouraged.1
