Commentary on Luke 18:7–8a (Summary)

Luke 18:7–8 (ESV)

7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

This widow had to persevere for very long to finally get a hearing from that judge. And even then the man acted out of self-interest. God is completely different. We can be sure, Jesus says, that the highest Judge (see Genesis 18:25) has an open ear and heart for all his chosen ones. Truly, he will soon provide justice for his loved ones. How wonderful to know this! A stronger encouragement to keep on praying is unimaginable (see also Luke 18:1).
