Commentary on John 14:3 (Summary)

John 14:3 (ESV)

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

It grows more beautiful. Once Jesus has prepared everything for his people with the Father, he will return to the earth. Then he will gather all who have persevered in faith in God and in him. The great and glorious gathering will follow. This is what Jesus longs for, and oh, how much does he want this longing to inspire us as well. The apostle Paul gave voice to that longing with the words, For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:16–18).
